Head Cloth

Throughout the eastern Mediterranean, men and women wear rectangular or square head covers made of silk or cotton as part of complex headdresses, or as simple head covers. They are usually woven in plain weave, with stripes or decorative patterns in vivid colours. Silk head cloths owned by rich women are often embroidered with spangles and glass beads, and decorated with fringes and tassels.
