Simple little rugs like this, commissioned from weavers in and around Herat, were first offered for sale on eBay in 2007. They are among the most eloquent and disturbing of war rugs. Three are in this exhibition: The pony and the deer are trapped by tanks, and the lady with the lute is sad beyond words.
