In Himachal Pradesh, a northern Indian state in the Himalayan foothills, women’s garments traditionally provided more protection against the cold than this backless blouse (choli). Rajput women migrants from Gujarat and Rajasthan introduced this style of blouse to Chamba, probably in the late 18th or early 19th century.
