The Kohistan region contains both the Swat Valley and the Indus Valley, each has its own embroidery style: Swati women prefer satin stitch outlined with a white running stitch (as seen on this wedding kurta), while tiny cross-stitches are favoured in Indus Kohistan. Yet both styles are often found on the same garment indicating the close cultural contact between the two.
