Rabat embroideries always feature bold colours and strong geometric and floral designs. In this monochromatic piece, off-white negative space outlines the repeated embroidered medallions in a regal composition. Like many embroideries from Rabat, this example offers proof that monochromatic designs can be as effective as those with a varied palette. This piece was used as a cover for a chest, and brought out together with other embroideries to decorate the interior of an urban dwelling for parties or other formal occasions.
